Just Purple Card Challenge

The challenge at Cards in Envy is "Just Purple". We are to make a card that mostly showcases the color purple. This is the card I created.

I used WorldWind Doublemates cardstock. I used the light colored purple for the background and the other side I used a Tim Holtz butterfly border punch. I accented using a scrap piece of Graphic 45 paper. The sentiment is from a Phyllis Harris design by Unity stamp set. I stamped using Dusty Concord Distress Ink then double matted the sentiment and added a piece of ribbon.

I used foam tape under the butterflies to give some dimension to the card. I am very pleased with the end result! This card will probably go to Remi as I learned while she was here this time that one of her favorite colors is now "purple"! I made this card before I knew that!

Day 29 of the 30 Day Color Challenge

Hello and welcome to Day 29 of the 30 Day Color Challenge. I did change things up just a bit. For the background on this card I used a Cover-a-Card stamp called "Clouds" from Impression Obsession. This stamp is 6x6. I stamped the paper then cut to fit a card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2). The ink I used on the stamp was Tim Holtz Distress "Salty Ocean" for the sky.

The girl on the swing is a Unity Stamp by Phyllis Harris called "Happiness is..." I colored her with my Copic Markers then cut her out as I wanted the background to show through as much as possible. The tree limb is a Tim Holtz Bigz die Holly Branch. I was so bummed when I realized that I had some how gotten a mark on the front of the card. Ugh! Other than that I was very happy with how this turned out!

I was hoping to ride at the State Park again today with my farrier Curtis. I was planning to ride Diamond but we got some rain this morning and it was enough that the park closed the trails. I was so bummed! I could have ridden anyway out where I keep the horses but I chose to catch up on some things here. It is Wednesday and church night for me so it made for a short afternoon anyway.

I did some blogging this afternoon and I had a little help! This is Abercrombie. Vanessa named him when we got him which was in 2000. Yep, this cat is 15! I call him Ab. He usually stays outside when the weather is nice but when it rains or he hears a little rumble of thunder he yells to come in the house. He's not gotten up on the desk in a very long time. Guess he needed some "contact"!

I went to feed on my way to church and there were more clouds building to the Southwest. We did get some rain but only a tenth of an inch. East of us got it a bit worse with some hail. I am thankful we didn't have that!

Hello My Little One

I'm sharing my first two page layout for Kashton. I am so thankful that I work at my LSS Cat's Creations. I'm asked to make pages with new paper to display at the store for examples of what to do! This helps me continue to make progress! For this layout I got my inspiration from CatNanDo Sketch #1 of 2013. This is a two page sketch. Which I love as I typically do a two page layout.

 Here is left side of my layout. These are pictures of the day Kashton was born. We couldn't have asked for a better nurse. It didn't hurt that we knew her as well! Vanessa is overcome with emotion at the first look at her son after birth! He was a much bigger baby than any of us imagined weighing 9lbs .28 oz. and 21 inches long!

As you can see I took some liberty with the sketch. But sketches are intended to inspire your creativity not just copy...although you can most certainly do that. For this layout I am highlighting Moxie's new paper collection called "Wee Ones". This paper was unveiled at the Cat's February Retreat. I used a diecut from that collection for the title and word stickers on the vertical striped paper.

Here is the right side of my layout. Keannon and Vanessa admiring their new son. I apologize that the middle photo is so dark. I think I'll go have that edited and reprint. And Kennedy meeting her brother for the first time. She was quite excited to get to meet him!

I didn't embellish much on this page. I did use some clear stamps I had purchased from my LSS to put the stats for Kashton. I cut out the cream oval and the scalloped orange paper using Spellbinders dies. I inked the oval with Tim Holtz distress Antique Linen. I wanted to journal about this day so I made a pocket to go behind the oval, sewed to the background paper. I made a tag for journaling using my Tim Holtz die. I inked it with my blending tool using Antique Linen then tied twine to the tag.

Simple But Exquisite

I know Christmas is over but it's my most favorite holiday and when you are a crafter you can never start Christmas projects too early! Besides making my own Christmas cards I like to make Christmas cards for Operation Write Home. I learned about a card challenge through my friend (and fellow card maker) Sandy  that is specifically for Christmas cards called Christmas Cards All Year Round. This month's theme is "Anything Goes" as long as it's Christmas.

This is very simple but I absolutely LOVE how this card turned out! The picture isn't bad but the sparkle really shows up when you hold the card in your hand. Unfortunately this card is NOT OWH friendly as the white glitter paper I used for the background does flake and that isn't acceptable for sending to our Heroes.  The blue glitter paper I used does not flake and I really prefer this for my projects I want to sparkle! I used an ornament die from Sizzix. I also diecut chipboard for the ornament to give it dimension. I used a Tim Holtz Alterations die "Noel" for the lettering in the ornament. Used ribbon from my stash to tie a bow and a bling. That's it!

I would also like to enter this card in Sandy's challenge January Anything Goes With A Twist. The only specifics is whatever you make must have the colors blue & white. For more details click on the link.

We got much needed rain. Final count I poured out 3 inches from my rain gauge. It rained a slow soaking rain for two solid days! Very unusual for us! Rain usually comes and goes rather quickly. It definitely helped put a dent in our drought conditions. Just hope it doesn't wait for months to rain again! We will have a really nice day tomorrow. I want to ride. I haven't ridden since before Christmas.

I also need to take advantage of the nice weather and take Christmas lights off the roof. Not much to remove though, squirrels chewed them up! Darnedest thing I've ever seen. I've been putting lights on my house for 7 years. This is the first time squirrels have been a problem. Not sure why the squirrels preferred my lights to 4 pecan trees loaded with nuts!

I first discovered it when I was throwing the frisbee for Kaidence. I saw some clips on the ground and when I went to pick them up I saw the wire.

Out of 5 strands only 2 have seemingly survived. What's even stranger is that the lights have worked all through the holidays and it wasn't until after Christmas I found the damage. Thankfully they waited to destroy my decorations! Guess I will be buying more lights next year.
