Thursday May 26, 2005

I've got to get it in my grid it's Thursday. For some reason it has seemed like Friday all day. We got some much needed rain this AM and remained overcast and very pleasant the rest of the afternoon. Rode my bike today (6 miles) after the rain cleared.Well, I thought I would share a few more pics of our menagerie.

This is Mercy. A Great Dane. She showed up in our front yard very underweight 2 years ago. We tracked down the owner and discovered he had given her away to someone that lived up the street from us. I went to ask them about her and they denied ever having her! So we decided to keep her. She is very much "one of the family"! I had never owned a Dane before. They truly are people dogs. They just want to be where you are. Yes, she stays in the house. She is even so sensitive that if anyone of us is gone overnight she won't eat until everyone is home. I named her Mercy because I thought she needed lots of it.

She has truly become my husband's dog though. He babies her more than the rest of us. She weighs right at 99lbs and is 31 inches at the shoulder. See how he is! She is a little large for a lap dog but she thinks she is. I couldn't resist taking this picture. My friends tease me about having a "miniature horse".

We also have an outdoor dog named Zorro that is half Labrador and half German Shepherd. He is all black and looks sort of like a lab except he has a really large head and a tail that curls like a shepherd's. His head really looks like he has Rotweiler (sp?) but we were told he was half shepherd half lab. He was a rescue too. Infact all my pets except for the horses are rescued animals.

Here is my baby. His name is Speedy. He's a year old. I found him and his brother abandoned, soaking wet and near death where we used to keep our horses. Two other kittens were already dead. I could tell they weren't old enough to be weaned yet so I stopped at the store on the way home and got milk & bottles. Doyle & I didn't think they would last through the night. I dried them off, warmed them up and fed them and they not only survived but thrived. Through searching the internet, I figured they were about 2 weeks old. One of them screamed all the time so that's what I called him "Screamer" the other one was really fast even though he was wobbly so we called him "Speedy" I never really intended for the names to stick but they did. I of course had promised my husband I would find a home for them when they got bigger (liar, liar, pants on fire). I was truly attached to these kittens! I was there Momma! So reluctantly I ran an ad in the paper. One family with two little girls came and picked up the one I really wanted to keep. Screamer, even though he was loud, was a very loving kitten where as Speedy always wanted to be "on the go". It was sad when Screamer left as Speedy kept looking for him. His personality changed somewhat after that. He became more loving. He still bounces off furniture and loves to run and jump into our dining room chairs that have wheels and go sailing across the kitchen floor! But when he wants my attention, he crawls in my lap and lays on his back soaking it all up. He's a little hellion but he's also adorable.

This is "Abercrombie" my daughter's cat. Another neutered male. This isn't his most glamorous pose but it is one of his funniest. He was rescued as a kitten also from where our horses used to be. "Ab" as we call him has been with us 6 years. He's a big cat weighing around 12 to 15 lbs.

Well, I should close since it's not Friday that means I have to work tomorrow so I guess I should call it a night.

I will lie down and sleep in peace for you alone oh, Lord make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 NIV

Wednesday May 25, 2005

Let's see...I tried walking today...not a good idea. My little toe really bothered me. I managed to tough out 2 miles but think I will stick to riding my bike until it heals. (My horse stepped on it two weeks ago). I was a glutton for punishment and also rode my bike 5 miles. Actually I really enjoy riding my bike more than walking but know I need both kinds of exercise to get all the muscles! It was nicer today about 86. I can handle that! It threatened to rain all day but nothing as yet. We were in a thunderstorm watch until four but has been extended until 11pm. Weathermen seem to think we still have a good chance at some rain overnight or early in the morning. I hope so we could really use it. We have had the driest spring on record in years!

I am married and have one daughter who will be 20 in September! Here is a pic of my two favorite people. It was taken last year during Rodeo week. Right before the parade. My husband, Doyle, is a member of the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Posse. They are not related to law enforcement at all but are an organization comprised of men who go trail riding and have events to raise money to give to non-profit organizations. They sponsor a ranch rodeo every year in April and always man the concession stand at our community's annual rodeo that is sponsored by the Palo Pinto County Livestock Association. Every year the Sheriff's posse elects a Sweetheart to represent their club. It is usually one of the members daughters or a family member's daughter. Last year Vanessa was elected Sheriff's posse sweetheart and she also PPCLA Rodeo Queen. She worked very hard. She rode her horse everyday for 2 months working on patterns and just getting him in shape. She was a senior that year and everyday after school she went and sold rodeo tickets and advertising. Each contestant had to sell tickets and were judged on horsemanship. The rodeo begins on Wednesday and ends on Saturday. To kick off the events there is an annual trail ride from our neighboring city Weatherford (18 miles away) to Mineral Wells. Then at 5pm there is a parade through downtown Mineral Wells then the Grand Entry of the Rodeo at 8pm. Vanessa had to ride in the Grand Entry each night of the rodeo and each contestant was introduced each night. On Saturday, all the ticket money was counted, interviews were conducted and horsemanship was judged. In the end Vanessa won Horsemanship and won the crown of PPCLA Rodeo Queen. She sold almost 8,000 in ticket sales and sign advertising! I guess you can't tell that Momma is proud!

Here's another picture of them waiting to ride in the Grand Entry at Jacksboro Rodeo. Another tidbit I didn't tell you. The horse Vanessa is riding is actually her dad's horse and he is riding hers! Vanessa is tall and very long legged. Her little Appaloosa is only 14.1 hands! The Bay Quarter Horse was definitely the mount to carry the "Queen"!

Well, I need to take a shower before church tonight so will close for now.

Tuesday May 24, 2005

Well, I did it! I went riding even though it was 96 degrees! My horse may not let me catch him next time! I did hose him down when we got through, gave him some treats and let him rub his head on me. Maybe that will be an even payoff.

I am so looking forward to Saturday. Our local scrap book store is having a free crop. I am introducing one of my friends to it as a surprise. I can't wait. She will be so excited. Plus I get to crop myself.

Monday May 23, 2005

It's Monday! At least it doesn't feel as hot as the last couple of days. Think I'll go put on my shorts, tank and tennies and ride my bike. (need to get that exercise in). I've been trying to walk two miles a day but last week my horse stepped on my foot and my little toe is still swollen and can't take much pressure from shoes. I figured bicycling wouldn't hurt as bad as walking and I still get some of my body exercised. I have to be at work at my other part time job at 5:30pm so don't have enough time to go ride horses. (That 14 mile one way thing). I'll put it on my agenda tomorrow for sure!

I did get a couple of page LOs done last night. I'm about 10 years behind on scrap booking since I just started this hobby about 2 years ago. I took a break from doing past pictures and started working on my daughter's. She ran for Rodeo Queen in our local rodeo last year and won so of course I took tons of pictures. Her actual title is Palo Pinto County Livestock Association Rodeo Queen (what a title). Throughout the year she was able to do several parades so have pics of that too. I bought her a K & C Company Cowboy album to put those pictures in. It's been fun to work on. I just finished the pics from last year and have used all 10 pages! That doesn't include all the parades, grand entries or this years pictures! I'm definitely going to have to expand this album!

Well enough for now.

Sunday May 22, 2005

The words of this song are just where I'm at right now....

Here I am, once again. I pour out my heart
for I know that You hear every cry
You are listening no matter what state, my heart is in
You are faithful to answer
With words that are true
and a hope that is real
As I feel, Your touch
You bring a freedom to all that's within
In the safety of this place I'm longing to

Pour out my heart to say that I love You
Pour out my heart to say that I need You
Pour out  my heart to say that I'm thankful
Pour out my heart to say that You're wonderful

Yes, Lord You are wonderful no matter how I feel or what I'm going through. You are a great and awesome God.

Saturday May 21, 2005

The weather forecast for today will be hotter than yesterday UGH! I signed up to take a class at the scrap book store in town. A rubber stamp demonstration by "Close to My Heart" representative. I don't make cards but I figure I can use what I learn in my scrap books. I need to do a little house cleaning but don't want too. I can't seem to find anyone else to do it for free either! Ha Ha. Hope everyone has a great day.

Friday May 20, 2005

It's Friday, Yeah! Not sure what today holds yet but first I must work. Get the bulletin done, work on the newsletter then after 12 or 12:30pm I'm free to go. I only work in the mornings which is really nice. May go ride today but I have to work my other part time job this evening so that doesn't leave much time in between especially since my horses live 14 miles away from me. I will be so glad when we finally have our own property and I can just go out the back door for a quick ride. It's supposed to be hot and humid this afternoon maybe scrap booking would be the better option today with the limited time I have. Enough for now. Maybe more later as the day progresses.

Well, I managed to do absolutely nothing today and it's nearly time to go to my other part time job. (I owe, I owe so off to work I go!) I had a horse spring colic on me about a month ago ($250 worth!). He's fine now but wasn't prepared for that expense. All three of our horses needed shod (another $135). There's a couple of kids in our church who are graduating from high school that we're having a party for on Sunday (more $$) and a baby shower coming up on the June 4th (even more$$) Guess I will have to continue working this other job for a while.

Today was the hottest day we've had (95). It's the humidity that makes it feel so bad!
