Dorothy Meets Alice 05.01.2023

Kashton auditioned for a part in a play through the fine arts department at Community Christian School.
The play was called "Dorothy Meets Alice". Kashton got the part as "Scarecrow". A play designed for Junior High, there were not enough kids in Junior High so they went to the lower grades. These kids did a phenomenal job! Below is a video of the entire performance.

Here is the entire cast.

This post was made on Facebook on the school's page

To say I am proud of this group of very young and talented group of actors is an understatement. This OAP has been a journey and sometimes a struggle. I feel these students grew so much and learned a great deal about theatre this year. It was such a privilege and a joy to see them perform yesterday at regionals. To see how each of them have grown and come to better understanding of their characters is just really really fun! 🤩 They gave their absolute best performance at regionals yesterday and it paid off! They placed second and Mrs. Wheaton and I could not be more proud. As a mostly elementary cast going against junior high students, I’d say that is pretty good.
In addition to placing second several students were honored for their individual performances.
Kashton Bailey and Olivia Jefferson received honorable mention cast awards.
Harbor Lemons and Ian Scott received second all star cast awards.
Elli Lemons received a first all star award.
Rhyann Woodarski received an all star tech award. (Shanda Lopez)
And Kyler Glover was honored as best actor for his role as The Mad Hatter!!
Congratulations
to all!
We excelled as a cast and won as a cast!

Kashton in character.

We got to watch the performance on May 1st.

He did a wonderful job as did all the kids. It was a great performance!

Have a good one!

Another Trip to California

Once again Doyle and I went to Northern California for a church conference (April 19-21). Our church is networked with the one in Redding called Bethel. They were hosting a leaders conference. This time was a bit different as our pastors were unable to go. We extended an invite to a young woman in our congregation that I have been mentoring and to Vanessa.

When Doyle had originally invited Vanessa to go, Keannon was insurance adjusting in Redding. However he finished up and was sent to Reno before we got there. It was still close enough for him to drive and meet us in Redding for the week we were there.

The conference didn't start until Wednesday night but we go out on Monday (April 17th) to give us a little time before the conference starts.

We spend nearly all day traveling. It's 2 hours to the airport on our end, 3 1/2 hours in flight, 2 hours from airport to Redding and then add a 2 hour time difference!

Doyle booked us a really nice VRBO for our stay.

April 17th, the day we arrived we had dinner on the Sacramento River in Redding at a place called View 202.

Me and Meagon, the young woman I have been mentoring and disciplining. She is about 4 years younger than Vanessa.

It was chilly there. upper 50's

April 18th was a sightseeing day. We took the kids to a couple of falls that Doyle and I had been to before. First stop was Burney Falls. Burney Falls is a waterfall on Burney Creek, within McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park in Shasta County about 60 miles North of Redding.

View of the falls from the trail.

Vanessa took this awesome photo of Meagon with the falls.

The last time we came to these falls we weren't able to hike the trails that looped the falls as the bridge was out. We got to this time!

That's a big tree!

Me and Meagon at the Falls.

There were benches along the trails. I loved the quotes on them!

Keannon got adventuresome.

The next falls we went to was Hedge Creek Falls in Dunsmuir. This waterfall is much smaller but is unique in that you can go behind it!

So beautiful. These pictures were taken on the drive from Burney Falls to Hedge Creek Falls. We were at high elevation at Burney Falls.

Still snow in the mountains.

Disregard the conversation. I was enamored with the fact that it was either snowing or sleeting although the sun was shining! Definitely white stuff flying around!

After all that hiking we had lunch at Yaks on the 5. Doyle and I tried to eat here the last time we came but they were closed. So this was our first time inside too!

Instead of giving you a number for your order they gave you a name. Meagon is holding our order name which was "Dream Girl". Very interesting place!

The food was phenomenal!

We need to hike some more after eating all that food!

It was a great outing for all of us!

Have a good one!
