Spring Break Staycation - Fossil Park 3-16-18

After our tour at the Palo Pinto Jail Museum we made our way to Fossil Park.

Looking at a picture of what types of fossils we might see.

Looking for fossils.

Korin found one!

Do you see the long tubular fossil?

You can see a few more fossils in the picture.

I told Kennedy that these types of places are where snakes like to hang out.

Kashton wasn't in the mood for a picture. His buddy Zadok didn't mind 😊

After the Fossil Park we came back to town and met on the steps of the Baker Hotel.

The Baker is closed to the public. We aren't even allowed on the veranda anymore. It was here that we got a little history on the back and were told some stories, some true, some not. I'm sure that part was more fun for me than the girls. Kashton was still not in a very good mood so he and Mom didn't join us for this part of the tour.

Phil Garrett, a retired attorney and avid volunteer in preserving history shows us the spot where the very first water well was dug in Mineral Wells.

We walked down to the old Poston's Building that now houses our County Extension Offices then we went to the Bistro for lunch.

On the patio at the Bistro....on the weekends at night this is what is known as "The Hole-in-the-Wall" Grill and Bier Garten. There was actually a hole in the brick wall you see in the background. The hole was repaired but because the original brick used couldn't be matched Perri, one of the owners painted over it.

Click here for a short video clip of the boys playing cornhole.
Pretty creative huh?! I love how you can see a portion of the Baker from their patio. Too bad there are power lines in the way.

After lunch we went to the "Famous Water Company". They use the water from some of the original wells that were dug and sell 3 different grades of water. There is Crazy Water 2, 3 and 4. The highest number has the most minerals in it. It is this water that has proven to have many health benefits.

Explaining the different types of water available to taste.

Kennedy getting a sample of number 4.

I tried to be ready as I was anticipating this response...she took a taste and promptly spit it back out! You do have to acquire a taste for number 4 😉

This is a relatively new product. I should have bought some to try.

From here we load up and drive to the National Vietnam War Museum on the East side of Mineral Wells on Highway 180. I'll share that tour in another post.

Have a good one!
