After enduring pain for more than a year and exhausting all other alternatives Mom saw a surgeon
and had surgery on her ankle March 14th.
She had to be at the hospital the day of surgery at 5:30 AM in the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. That's about 90 miles for us. Thankfully my sister-in-law Doris lives only 15 minutes from this hospital so we stayed with her the night before.
I stayed with her until they took her back. They gave me a case# so I could follow her progress. I love this! She is case# 584902.
I was told surgery would take about 2 1/2 hours. I went for a bite of breakfast then checked her progress. (To see the picture larger click on it).
I also took a catnap. Even though I went to bed much earlier than when I am home, 4:30 AM came too soon!
I checked again and was surprised they were nearly through!
It wasn't long that the receptionist in the surgery waiting area came to get me to take to a room for the doctor to talk to me.
The doctor gave me these pictures. The left is the front view of Mom's ankle. The other is a side view.
I was allowed to see her when she was brought to her room.
She was kept overnight for observation.
I stayed with her and watched the sunset through her window.
She was allowed to come home the following afternoon.
There has been a bit of a learning curve for her but she has done very well. She is to be non-weight bearing for 6 wks!
Have a good one!
I'm sure you and your mom are glad to have this! Six weeks sounds like a long time but will pass quickly and then she'll be kicking her heels up I hope! Thoughts and prayers for a good recovery!
ReplyDeletethanks so much! At least she's not having the pain she was!
