Dance Recital May 2015

Saturday May 30th was Kennedy's Dance Recital. This year's recital was called "Dancing Around the World".

To get good seats we had to get there early to wait in line for the doors to open. Recital started at 10:30 AM, doors opened at 10 AM we were in line by 9:30 AM. Nana (Janice, Vanessa's step-mother) holding Korin. Anybody recognize this outfit?

This is Kennedy and Vanessa June 2010. She was 6 months old. Korin is 7 months. They almost look like the same baby!

Back to the recital!

A sweet man saw me trying to get a picture of everyone and offered to take this for me. The whole row is there for Kennedy's recital.

Here's our little doll! My she looks so grown up to me! Her first performance was a tap dance routine.

Her next dance to perform was a ballet number.

She did a great job! I was so proud of her.

Have a good one!

Card Creativity

I mentioned in my last blog that I had missed the last challenge over at Cards in Envy. The theme was "When Nature Calls". The challenge was to make a card featuring things found in "nature" either living or inanimate objects. I chose to make a card anyway based on that theme to add to my stash of cards.

I've had this stamp for a while and think this was my first time to use it. It is from Impression Obsession. I first used Distress Ink Antique Linen, Faded Jeans, Wild Honey and Spun Sugar blending them together to create the background for the stamp. My intention was to make it look somewhat like a colorful sunset sky but it didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped. I didn't want to do it over so just went with what I had. I then stamped the image with black ink.  To bring out come color I put yellow cardstock behind the image and for interest I used an embossing folder to give it texture.

I also made a few Mother's Day cards.

"Hey Dude" Cards in Envy Challenge

With all the rain we've been getting I have had some time to do a little crafting. My goal is to try to make a card for each challenge which they have every 2 weeks. I missed the last challenge. Time just totally got away from me.

The theme for Cards in Envy's challenge is "Hey Dude". The challenge is to make a card that is masculine or can be sent to any guy. With Father's Day right around the corner I went with that. Here is my card.

It's pretty simple but I like how it turned out. I don't remember the paper line I used. It was some I had left from last year. The crossword shirt I cut out of the paper. The sentiment was all one line and I cut up the words individually to fit on the shirt.

Rains Taking Their Toll

The weather is causing me havoc! I've had a very difficult time being consistent with riding my bike because of the unpredictable weather. Fancy lost a shoe after just getting them on because the pasture is so wet. The trails at the State Park are closed because the trails are wet. I have a couple of other options to ride but the ground is so saturated!

I did ride my bike the other day. I couldn't go as far as I usually do because the heavy rains had
caused erosion on part of the trail. Not sure when that will get fixed.

The ride was still beautiful with all the wild flowers and of course a view of the cross. The abundance of rain as made for an exceptional wildflower season!

These are called "Fire wheels".

I just love the mixture of colors!

I'm not certain but these are Mexican Hats.

This is called "Horse Mint".

I think this is a thistle bloom.

These are cactus blooms.

Another cactus bloom. I was intrigued by the orange color. I don't see that very often. Mostly yellow or pink.

More Mexican Hats

Aren't these guys so pretty?!

Abundance of Rain

Can I dare say it? We're waterlogged! Don't misunderstand me. I'm not complaining, I just like to
share the wealth with some areas that have not been as fortunate as us!

I love that everything is green and all tanks (ponds), creeks, rivers and lakes are full. In fact there's water standing in our back yard and in the pasture. This picture was taken May 10th. It is now May 24th and it still looks like this! The downside is now there are mosquitoes! I'm spraying the horses everyday to help with that. Mosquitoes carry the dreaded West Nile Virus and not only can humans get it but horses can too! Clyde was one of the first cases in our county. He survived it but he was one very sick horse. He spent 5 days at the vet clinic. This was several years ago now. Proof he's a tough one!

Wednesday night May 13th on my way home from church I got to witness a gorgeous sunset. I found a place to stop and take a few pictures before going home.

This is a church I pass on my way home. I've been waiting for a evening like this to take this picture.

On Thursday May 14th I went with a couple of other ladies from my church to a conference about 2 hrs away that went through Saturday. During one of the breaks I saw these cool clouds.

Stormy Week

What a week we've had and we are only to Thursday! Saturday night about 11:30pm we had 70 - 90+mph straight line winds in a Severe Thunderstorm! Some people are convinced a tornado hit them but there were none report or confirmed. There was lots of tree damage. Broken limbs, trees snapped in half or split and many just flat uprooted. Of course with all the rain we have received the ground is saturated making it easier to uproot trees but these are not small trees! We managed to not have any damage but Keannon and Vanessa were not as fortunate. Where they live has many oak trees. One tree was lost and their yard looked like a war zone as did much of the neighborhood.

This is the tree in their backyard. Doyle helped Keannon get the tree cut down Sunday morning. I came and helped clean up tree limbs and branches out of the front yard that afternoon. Power wasn't restored until the following day.

On the way home I stopped by our city park that also took a pretty hard hit. As you can see people were at the park. It was a pretty day after the storm.

A couple of lights at the ball fields in the park area were knocked over.

isn't this weird?!

There were some businesses that suffered damage from those high winds also.

Then on Tuesday we had another severe storm. This time there were tornadoes involved! (I didn't take this picture).

A tornado did hit downtown Mineral Wells! It formed just about a mile South of were we live at the cemetery I take the dogs to walk. It would drop down, pull up, drop down and pull up. We live about a mile from downtown. This metal came from a building across the street which would be to the left of this photo.

This is a view from the other direction.

It also hit First Baptist Church, the Catholic Church and some other businesses. (First Baptist is just to the right out of the photo).

This is a view of NW 4th Ave. just North of First Baptist Church. The Catholic Church property is on the right of this photo.

It was a mess but the awesome thing is NO ONE GOT HURT! And the damage was not what it could have been!

That's enough excitement for awhile. But meteorologists say we are in for a stormy weekend and have a change of very heavy rain with flooding. On the up side of all this rain....Mineral Wells water source is 100% full once again! What an answer to prayer! A month ago we only had 8% water left

and in 5 days we were back to full! Now you will never convince me that isn't a miracle!

Possum Kingdom is almost to capacity as well! We are happy!

This cartoon pretty much sums it up for me!
