First Full Day in Redding, CA 4-10-19

After breakfast I chose to walk around (with my camera of course) the hotel. Doyle had seen some birds in the trees behind the hotel.

I saw this hummingbird.

I got a partial view of this Blue Jay.

These poppies (California's state flower) are so pretty!

Saw several of these butterflies.

This small flowers look much prettier in person!

This was the prize of the day! I had not seen this bird before! So beautiful!

I learned it is an Oriole.

A Ruby-throat Hummingbird.

My friends who love to bird watch will love these pictures on their calendars this year.

A view of the scenery from the back of the hotel parking lot. Isn't it pretty?! The water you see is the Sacramento River.

I also discovered Indian Burial grounds on the hotel property at the edge of the parking lot!

The conference didn't begin until the evening so we met up with Pastor Kirk, Karen and Michelle. The plan was to go to Lassen National Park and Burney Falls.

Driving into Lassen National Park. We are at high enough elevation that there is still snow!

Once at the park entrance we discover most of the park is closed but we took a few pics to prove we were there!

Michelle took this one for us.

Couldn't help but take this one for fun! I was walking close to this when Michelle went into "protective Mother-mode" telling me not to walk on it. Just so you know...Michelle is 11 years my junior!

We load back into the car and head to Burney Falls.

It is said that President Roosevelt dubbed Burney Falls as the 8th wonder of the world. The falls are 129ft.

Taking in the Falls from above.

Doyle hasn't quite mastered the "self" yet. 😊

Some of us were adventuresome (Kirk, Doyle and me) and wanted to hike the trail down to the base of the falls.

Going down.

Looking back up.

Looking up at the two we left behind 😉.

The mist from these snow melted waters was very chilly!

Go here for a short video clip.
Another video that Doyle took.

The trees are really tall!

The continual mist causes moss to grow on nearly any surface.

Not only was the snow melting but this part of California had some significant rain fall this spring causing damage to the trails so we weren't able to walk very far. This bridge was damaged crossing the water

and a little farther down the trail from the bridge was this downed tree. I was a bit disappointed about not being able to hike farther.

Doyle poses so you can see just how big this tree is!

Burney Falls, you were impressive!

A short clip of the conference. I'm up front by the band. If you look close you can see the back of my head a time or two. 😉

Have a good one!
