San Francisco 4-9

From Alameda we make our way to San Francisco.

Oh my! The traffic!

The bay.

Bay Bridge

You can see the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance on the left of this photo.

I definitely felt like the little country mouse that went to the city!

I thought San Francisco city hall is a gorgeous building!

On the sidewalk.

from the top of Lombard Street

Looking to the top of Lombard Street.

Cars going down Lombard Street.

I took this picture because if you look on the top balcony in the middle of the picture you will see a dog! I heard a dog barking but couldn't find it until I looked up! These apartments are on Lombard Street right before the switch back portion.

We did see a trolley car!

Next stop the Golden Gate Bridge.

Have a good one!

Alameda California 4-9

Our first stop on our day of sightseeing is Alameda, California. You may ask "why Alamdea?"

Because family history was made there.

Doyle's parents were married in Alameda, California in 1945. His dad was in the Navy and just getting out of the service. I recently learned after being in the family over 30 years that his mom went to California to meet him out there ahead of his discharge. She lived and worked there. I had understood that she just went out to meet Doyle's Dad to marry him. That was pretty courageous of her for that day and time!

Doyle's sister has a picture of them on the day they married in Alameda. We were within a couple of hours of there from the airport we flew into. So once we landed we rented a car and headed South to Oakland where we would spend the night.

Doyle did some research on the history of Alameda and felt like he had gotten pretty close to the location that the picture was taken. He wanted to get a picture of us.

That is a story in itself as Doyle asked 3 different people if they would take our picture. Each one not only turned us down but were very rude about it! Hello....we're not in Texas anymore! Doyle decided we were going to have to settle for a selfie when I saw 3 teenage girls coming and I said we should try one more time. I asked and they said yes! Not all was lost 😊

Here is a another picture of them.

As you can see Doris has scrapbooked the keepsakes to preserve the family history.

(You can click on the picture to enlarge for better viewing.)

Alameda was a really cool town. We loved how they mixed the old with the new something we are trying to do in our own town.

This is a wide view of the location we had our picture made.

I just found this intriguing. The architecture and color scheme!

Couldn't resist 😉

Alameda, you were great to visit. Now on to San Francisco!

Have a good one!

Trip to California 4-8

Doyle and I were presented the opportunity to attend a church conference with our pastors Kirk and Karen and one other leader (Michelle) from our church at Bethel Church in Redding, California the second week of April. Kirk and Karen had to be there for meetings on Tuesday. We headed out with them a day early as we wanted to do a little sight seeing before the conference began on Wednesday.

Flying over the mountain range.

I am intrigued with aerial views!

We landed in Sacramento Airport. I found this decorative piece in baggage claim interesting.

We head to the car rental place to rent cars then we parted ways. Kirk, Karen and Michelle heading North to Redding and us heading South towards San Francisco.

Doyle made hotel reservations for us in Oakland. Then on Tuesday April 9th we would begin our sightseeing that was planned.

It was very overcast that day. The first part of the drive was through farm land.

We saw almond and olive trees.

Beginning to see signs of the city.

houses everywhere!

just below the cloud line you can see water!

I couldn't help but take a picture of this.

We arrive at our hotel and check in. It was a bit early for dinner so we walked around the hotel. We were close to the water but unfortunately our room was on the highway side.

These beautiful flowers (I found out) are California's state flower...the poppy and grows in many different places (a lot like our Blue Bonnets here)

This was a fun surprise!

We pick a restaurant about a mile down the road from the hotel called Quinn's Lighthouse that was right on the water.

It's a pretty cool place.

This is what I ordered. It was yummy!

It had been a full day. Now that our bellies are full, time for bed to get rest before our big excursion to Alameda, Golden Gate, Bay Bridge and Lombard Street.

Have a good one!
