Remembering 5-27-2017

Saturday, Doyle, along with me, Doren and Doris attended the 8th Annual Honoring of the Vietnam Memorial Wall at The National Vietnam War Museum on the outskirts of the East side of Mineral Wells.

I have ridden my bike by this place numerous times as it is between the Rails to Trails and the Highway but had never actually been.

Although I had some family members who served in the military I was not personally affected by it. But this service was very well done and was very moving. This really is a treasure for our area.

I learned some things that day I didn't know too. One of which is this wall unlike other moving walls, is kept current on the names of those added. There were  8 new names added to the wall this year.

This helicopter is the one that is usually on a stand in the air but was brought down to be repainted and some minor repairs made.

Getting a few questions answered.

Doyle, Doren and Doris checking out another helicopter. We learned later it was flown in that day and would be used for helicopter rides after the ceremony.

I love this picture.

Don Payne singing "More than a Name on the Wall" originally performed by the Statler Brothers 1988.

The playing of "Taps" by Joey Blue.

Helicopter rides were given to donors of at least $100. There were quite a few takers!

We also visited the gardens at the War Museum.

I found the butterfly haven!

It was a great event!

Have a good one!

  1. I've been to the memorial museum once and it is very nicely done and I'm so happy to see that they had a service. Like you I was not directly affected by that war but Eddie's brother Mike did serve over there in the Marines and we are very thankful that he made it back and unharmed unlike so many that were there. Great photos!
