Learning to Use Tags

When I worked at the scrapbook store we had a monthly "tag class". I attended one or two. They were fun but I just didn't get what to do with them. The class I attended we made "Christmas Tags". Not the type you put on gifts although I guess you could. The ones we made were too pretty to get ripped off a present and accidentally get thrown in the trash! 😲 I decided to hang mine on my Christmas tree and still do every year.

Since I've been following Unity Stamp Company's Facebook page and the Unity "Show and Tell" page where people share their creations I am learning things and changing my mindset about tags (maybe just a little 😏). The Show and Tell is a group and you will have to ask to join. I am amazed at the talent I'm seeing on that page. Just looking at what members are putting on the page is inspiration in itself! I was a bit intimidated to share anything at first but not long after following and reading comments I soon learned this is a really encouraging group.

The owner of Unity Stamp Company,  Angela Magnuson, loves to make tags and use kraft paper so I've been trying to do some of the things she has shown.

Angela did a recent video called "Tag card + Water color Flowers". What a novel idea!

This is the front. Two tags are put together using washi tape.

This is the inside. The sentiment is adhered with washi tape.

This is the back.

This may not be a new concept but it was to me! I like how it turned out and just might make some more.

Here is another tag I made recently. This one I made after watching this video by Angela called "Vellum Magic + Vintage Tag". I din't have a doily but I had this red heart you see behind the girl. I really like how this one turned out too! I'm surprising myself 😲!

The other day I was inspired to create something for a lady I met through her husband when he and I both worked for the cable company. We run into each other from time to time. They are very sweet people. She is the founder of a program through her church called "Change". It is a ministry to help people who are going through difficult times by assisting with employment applications, resumes, applying for GED's. A multitude of things. Anyway, she had extensive surgery to remove cancer on March 28th. She is still in the hospital. At first I thought I would make her a card then I changed my mind and decided on a tag (change of thinking for me!). My thinking was she could use it as a bookmark or hang it somewhere she could have it close to see and bring her encouragement when she needed it. I also wrote a scripture on the back from James 1:2-4 The Passion Translation. "When it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience all the joy that you can! For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things. And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking." I thought it really spoke to what she is experiencing right now.

I covered the tag with paper. I used the stamp set "Eloise Girl" part of the Angiegirl Collection by Unity. I stamped her then stamped the image again on various pieces of coordinating paper and paper pieced her. Everything is paper pieced except her skin which I colored with a Copic Marker.  I then cut around the girl and inked with Distressed Ink Vintage Photo. I stamped the sentiment and embossed it and cut the paper to make a banner then added some bling.

Hope I inspired you a bit today!

Have a good one!
