Learning New Things

I am so bummed I missed the Black and White Card Challenge at Cards in Envy! I had good
intentions but alas those intentions didn't get a card created for that challenge 😞. I've been creating cards but time totally got a way from me again! Oh well, I'll try again another time.

This was a simple card to make. For the background I applied Distressed Ink Festive Berries with a blending tool then splashed droplets of water on it. The heart is from the Unity Stamp set "I Ruff You". The sentiment is also Unity "Confession: I Luv Unity" from their scrapbooking line of stamps.

I used foam tape behind the heart and the sentiment.

Now this card is more my style of making cards 😏. Probably because I watched so many videos when I was making cards for Operation Write Home. A lot of their cards have layers and matting. I really like the look. This stamp is a Phyllis Harris Design by Unity called "Determination". It makes me think of my grandson Kashton. The papers I used were from an older Carta-Bella boy collection by Echo Park. Loved these papers!

I have also been trying to slowly (very slowly) but surely doing some condensing of stamps and getting rid of what I'm not using. I am also working on organizing my space. It's hard though because every time I am in there I want to create something! Or as I'm going through things I get stumped by something I find that at the moment feels like it needs attention right then! I am so distracted and way off course! Anyone else have that problem? 😉

Anyway I finally decided to put this banner together that I got like 2 years or more ago. I bought it when the scrapbook store was still here. I was afraid to "put it up" for fear I would never find "up" (if you know what I mean). I kept shuffling it around from place to place and I decided enough was enough. I was either going to put it together or throw it away!

I was very pleased at how it came out and was aggravated with myself for taking so long to do anything with it. It's hanging on the door to my craft room. Kennedy saw it and wants me to make her one! This one had all the banners and circles pre-cut. If (and I do mean if) I make one for Kennedy I will have to use this as a template and cut everything out. Not sure that's going to happen.

I have also enjoyed trying different techniques and ways of making cards through watching the Unity videos. It is inspiring me and getting me to "think outside the box". I've never done much water color and the last two weeks their challenge has been water coloring.

Here is one of my entries. I took Distressed Inks Peacock Feathers (turquoise), Picked Rasberries (pink), and Spiced Marmalade (orange) and applied ink to my non-stick craft mat. Next I spritzed the inks with water then put my stamp in the ink and stamped the image on water color paper. The butterfly I  used is from Unity called."Butterfly Beauty". The sentiment is from Unity's  April 2010 Kit of the Month  "Together We Bloom".

I had fun making this one. I watercolored the background by once again using Distressed Ink. The same colors as above. This time I brushed the colors onto water color paper. I used the same butterfly stamp for this card. I embossed the image then water colored the butterfly and cut him up. I curled the wings just a bit using a pencil then put foam tape under his body for dimension. The sentiment is also from Unity but I do not know what kit. Unity always sends some little something extra when you place an order. Sometimes its embellishments sometimes its a random stamp.

I am really proud of how this card turned out. This was made based on a technique I saw in a live video from Unity called "Coloring on Kraft + Simple Art Journaling".

The stamp set I used is "Steps of Courage".

This is a card I created based on another video called "Paper Pieced Rose + Double Embossing". The stamp is from December 2016 Kit of the Month "Always Been You".

Hope I didn't throw you into craft overload 😉.

Until next time....

Have a good one!
