My Pastor not only oversees a congregation but is also involved in our community. He was Texas Frontier Trails established and is still very involved.. A nonprofit organization designed to preserve the history of Palo Pinto County. You can read more about them on their website. They are also on Facebook where you can find more current information.

Anyway, Pastor Kirk has been steadily working with the help of others to create a mile long walking trail inside the park that Texas Frontier Trails (TFT) leases from the city. He mentioned he would like to have some pictures of the work they have done. I told him I would be happy to do that. He gave me the combination to the lock on the gate and I went last Friday, March 4th for a hike.

This is the front gate entrance.

The structure in the left of this picture is where they hold live performances.

The trails are marked and cleared. Now the next step is to put up posts with historical information about the "Goodnight-Loving Trail"

There has been some definite "trail blazing" going on!

This is my favorite part of the trail. These steps were put in many years ago.

A little closer look.

Looking the other direction from the top. The trees have it covered but there is a stone arched bridge at the bottom of the trail.

I just love this bridge!

Just down from the bridge is this little area that someone rocked many years ago. Kirk says it's been there as long as he can remember. With all the water we've had over the years run through this little creek, it's amazing the rocks are still in place!

And these rocks are not held together by concrete or anything else. They are just stacked. Pretty cool huh?!

I love how the afternoon sun is shining through the trees. It's a beautiful place and I am looking forward to the hiking tail being open. A grand opening is planned April 16th. This marks the 150th anniversary of the first Goodnight-Loving trail drive.
