Fun with Kashton

Vanessa and Keannon had a rehearsal dinner for her best friends wedding Friday April 24th and asked if I could keep Kashton. When they dropped him off he was asleep and slept for a couple of hours. When he woke up we went to feed horses. I had hoped to get that done before the rain hit but I was unsuccessful. It came a downpour just as the horses were finished eating. We had to wait in the barn with them for the rain to let up.

I am enjoying watching this beautiful sight!

It does let up and we head home. I fixed us something to eat. After supper Kashton wanted to go outside and play. It had quit raining by then.

For some strange reason he wanted the step stool outside.

I thought I could tell that the sky was setting up for a pretty sunset after the thunderstorm. Kashton followed me to the side of the house between mine and my neighbor's yard to watch. There was water standing in the street after the shower and Kashton started out "jumping" over the water.

It didn't take long before he wanted to walk through the water with his boots. So I told him to take his boots off.

This is much better!

Interesting looking clouds.

After watching the sunset and playing in the water I take Kashton to see Granddad at the Fire Station.

We had a great time!

Robins and Babies

Last year I was given the wonderful opportunity to watch a dove nest and have babies. This year it is Robins!

The nest is perched up very high in a Pecan tree in our backyard. No I didn't climb the tree. My sweet husband pulled out a ladder for me to get high enough to get the following pics! I wasn't that close either. I used my zoom lens

As you can tell these are two different birds. I'm not sure...maybe you bird people out there can tell me which one is the female. I think its the one to the left. Anyway, both of them would get food to feed the babies.

At first I thought there were only 2 babies but I soon learned there were more!

I now see three little heads.

If you look close there are 4 mouths open waiting for something to eat!

I count it a real privilege to be able to photograph something like this in my own backyard!

Pretty in Pink

This weeks Cards In Envy Challenge is "Pretty In Pink". The challenge is to make an A2 (4.25 x 5.5) card that will fit into an envelope for mailing that is mostly pink. Here is my creation. The sentiment is from Hero Arts. I love these big sentiments. I used a pink ink from Stampin' Up then added clear embossing powder then used a little foam tape for dimension.

Time got away from me and I missed last weeks Cards in Envy Challenge which was "Child's Play". To make a kids card.  I had a card in process then got busy and forgot about it until the challenge was over.

This is my card. It is very simple. I had it made except for the sentiment. I heat embossed the sentiment. I was so upset with myself for forgetting! Oh well. I missed the challenge but I still made the card. All's good right?! I'm sending it to Remi.

On another note one of my cards was chosen as winner of a recent Cards In Envy challenge "Spring is in the Air". I'm a bit embarrassed that it has taken me so long to acknowledge it! I was honored that my card was chosen! You can see that blog post here.  This was the card.

Kennedy's Cheer Competition

Kennedy's Cheer Competition was Saturday April 18th. I was not able to go this time. Vanessa said she did good. She's the youngest on her team. She's sporting a bit of attitude!

Warming up before competition

Waiting for their turn.

Waiting for awards.

Kennedy is in the middle.

You'll probably have to click on this picture to be able to see it better. Kennedy is on the far right on the shoulders of another girl.

This competition is the end of this years season.

The Boy Who Called "Wolf"

No, I'm not going to tell you a childhood fable. I referring to the "Severe Storm" we had on Saturday night that didn't happen.

Meteorologists said that there was a threat of severe weather and they were right. I was working at
the store that day. It was supposed to be a crop day but I guess the weather was so nice everyone was doing something else. I kept tabs on the weather and began to see storms forming out West on the radar. Soon a "Severe Thunderstorm Watch" was issued. The storms continued to intensify. Doyle started texting me to make sure I knew the latest update. Before long a "Severe Thunderstorm Warning" was issued. It was getting time to close the store anyway and Cathy wanted to get out of
town ahead of it so we closed up shop. As we make our way to our vehicles The sky is dark with angry looking clouds. I say to Cathy "You thinking what I'm thinking?" She said "I've got it right here on my shoulder". She was referencing her camera as was I! We both grab our cameras and start taking pictures. The Baker really stood out against the ominous clouds.

The back door to the store is to the right out of the photograph.

Isn't the bell tower cool looking?!

I wanted a better angle or view of the Baker against the dark clouds so I drove a couple of blocks and took this one.

I drove a few more blocks and got this one. I decided I better go feed horses before this thing hit.

Doyle sent me another text saying I might want to find a place to park the truck as there were reports that this storm had a history of golf ball size hail and 60+ mph winds. Great! (not!) Here's my view from the barn! The horses were already in the barn! That is highly unusual!

I begin asking God to let me get home under the carport before it hits!

I get about halfway home and Vanessa texts me and asks if I can go let the dog in. She lives about 3 miles from me. So I go to her house. Now I can watch the clouds really well because I'm driving right toward the storm! It's looking very eerie and I'm thinking "I'm not going to make it under cover before the bottom falls out!"

Driving up the hill to Vanessa's. I get the dog inside the house and back in my truck. Now to get home!

Just as I get on the road that goes back down the hill the storm sirens go off! I think I drove right by one as it went off! It was so loud it made me jump! I keep telling God "Just let me get home!" In trying to get home I got behind not one but two different drivers who were obviously oblivious to the impending storm as they were driving at a snail's pace! Then I see people standing along the road looking up at the sky all the while the sirens are blaring! What is the matter with people?!

God answered my prayer and I did make it home safely and get my truck under the carport just as the rain begins to fall. Vanessa was in Weatherford to pickup Kashton from Nana (her step-mom). Kennedy had cheer competition all day in Frisco about 2 hrs from us. Once at Nana's, Vanessa thought it best to ride out the storm there instead of getting caught on the road. I agreed. I kept waiting for wind and hail but....it never happened. All we got (thankfully) is rain. Doyle told me later that the storm split just about 5 miles from town where the Brazos River crosses Hwy 180. People North and South of town got wind and hail. Vanessa would have been better off coming home. She, Nana and all 3 kids rode out the storm in a hall closet. A funnel cloud had been sighted just South of their location! Nana did a great job of keeping the kids calm by singing. Vanessa said Nana was more calm than she was! Everyone was fine but it was a little too close for comfort!

The clouds cleared in the West just in time for the sun to set.

Interesting clouds over my neighbors house.

I almost waited too long to get any pics. I had been texting Vanessa, Doyle, and my other neighbor and then FaceBooking about the weather.

I couldn't see any rainbow from the house but a dear friend of mine saw one and sent this to me in a text because it made her think of me! How sweet! I loved it and wished I could have gotten a picture of it myself! I think it is even more cool that the view of the rainbow is over our church!

We still got 7 tenths and with getting 1.12 on Thursday, 1.15 on Friday that gave us almost 3 inches in 3 days! Woohoo! Now that is what I call RAIN!

We have more rain in the forecast for later this week with also the potential for storms. We dodged the bullet this time!

Have a good one!

The Rains Have Finally Come!

We had 3 days of rain in a row! Not just a couple of tenths but some sure enough rain! It started on
Thursday when I work at the scrapbook store. It came what Texans refer to as a "turd floater"!

This is my vantage point from the store's front.

This was a bit later when it came heavier and with some wind.

When I got home we had gotten an inch and twelve hundredths!

Then Friday we got it again! I was at home this time.

Sorry this one isn't as clear. I took it through the window of my craft room and those windows aren't very clean!

After that deluge we had an inch and fifteen hundredths! That put us a little over 2 inches in 2 days!

A pretty sunset followed. Not as good a picture since I used my phone instead of my big camera. My battery was dead and so was my backup! UGH! I don't know how that happened. Guess I forgot to charge one after I replaced it.

Still pretty colors! More rain in the forecast!

Have a good one!
