Lots of Poop!

I've had horses on and off through out most of my life and until now I never wondered how often a horse poops....until I had 4 horses on 3 acres!

So...out of curiosity...I googled it! Horses poop on an average of 10-12 times a day. Now multiply that times 4 and well...you can see the picture! I don't always have time to scoop up poop but this was ridiculous! I spent one afternoon scooping poop and hauling it off. I think I emptied 6 wheel barrows full. I am now trying much harder to stay on top of it. I don't know why they insist on pooping in the same places! I don't scoop the entire pasture...just the places where it's concentrated. I also try to keep the area where I put out hay clean.  Anyone need some fresh fertilizer?! I got plenty!

After making one of the many dumps I stopped at my truck to rest a minute and get a drink. While I was resting I saw something move on a tree out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought it was a bird. I grabbed my camera and using my 300mm zoom looked to see what it was. It was a large lizard! I walked closer to the tree to see if I could get a better look.
Of course he was a sly devil and made his way to the back of the tree where I almost had to look at the sun to see him! I did manage to get this shot of him.

Have a good one!

  1. Well, thanks for the scoop on poop. LOL And that is a BIG lizard! Don't overdo with all that scooping and hurt your back!
